Iona Technologies Inc., Dublin, has announced the availability of two mainframe versions of its Web services integration software.
Artix Mainframe is intended for enterprises with investments in either Information Management System (IMS), or Customer Information Control System (CICS), or both, according to Iona. The company said that the product allows mainframe developers to expose IMS and CICS COMMAREA transactions as Web services in a larger service-oriented architecture (SOA).
These reusable business-level services are then accessible to applications, allowing mainframe transactions to be combined and reused in new enterprise applications operating on other platforms. Artix Mainframe utilizes existing mainframe security facilities to authenticate and authorize access to mainframe-based services. It runs as a native mainframe process, which gives systems programmers control over its administration, Iona said.
Artix Mainframe is available in two versions: Artix Mainframe Developer is intended for users of Iona's CORBA-based Orbix Mainframe product. Artix Mainframe Transformer is intended for those organizations that have decided to use SOA to extend their legacy applications.
Artix Mainframe is available immediately for z/OS 1.2 or 1.4; OS/390 2.10; IMS 7 or 8 and CICS TS 1.3 or 2.2.
