Displaying XML in Internet Explorer

How do I get XML to display in the IE Browser? I am trying to learn XML on my own using a book. I copied the code into a text editor and I created the XML file. However, when the code is displayed on the IE Browser only the text is displayed, not the XML or the alert message. Code:
TO:
FROM:
BODY:
SUBJECT:

XML:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<!-- This is our first XML file -->
<MESSAGE>
<TO>STUDENT</TO>
<FROM>AUTHOR</FROM>
<SUBJECT>Introduction to XML</SUBJECT>
<BODY>Welcome to XML</BODY>
</MESSAGE>

Your XML is fine and it is displayed, in the default collapsible structure view, in my IE 5 browser.

Are you by any chance using an older version of IE? A non-XML aware version would most likely attempt to treat the file as HTML, skip the tags it did not understand (all of them in this case) and just display the text without the tags.

If this is the behavior you are seeing, then the version of IE is possibly the problem.
