Can I erase, delete or hide a tag using XSL/XSLT?

I am starting with XSL, and I would like to know if it is possible to do this:
Original XML: <book>
<name>aaa</name>
<price>999</price>
<author>ccc
</book>

Can I erase, delete or hide the 'author' tag using XSL/XSLT?
Yes. The easiest way to start would be with a "null" XSLT transformation that reproduces its input on its output. Then you can add a template to match author elements and emit nothing when you find them.

A null transformation example can be found at
