The whole point behind running a company is to make money, not spend it. Cutting out technologies that are bleeding money is one way business executives may try to reduce expenses. "Over a period of time it will probably become apparent some old apps are costing too much to incorporate change," said Alan Rodger, Ovum senior analyst. When it's evident old apps are costing an organization to maintain, leaders may decide it will be more cost-effective to get an upgrade, rather than putting a bandage on old apps.
